How to use this Worksheet
Cut out the outline of the heart for your child. Then have them snip on the dotted lines to make a cute heart decoration.
Tips for working on scissor skills
Let your child explore different grasps and hand positions while learning to cut. It’s okay if they hold the scissors upside down or with both hands, this phase is all about getting comfortable and exploring.
Try not to worry. Many parents don’t work on scissor skills because they are worried their child will hurt themselves. However, in 9 years of teaching kids to cut I’ve never seen anything worse than a minor pinch. Make sure to put the scissors away when you are finished to avoid any unexpected haircuts though!
Hold the paper for your child while they are snipping so they only have to focus on one thing at a time. As they get better, they can hold the paper in one hand and snip with the other. Smaller pieces of paper that won’t flop over are easier, and construction paper is easier to stabalize than printer paper.
